The original documents and copies can be presented to the notary by the owner/custodian of the documents or a representative.
For example:
a father may present his children's passports and copies of them; an
administrator may present documents and copies belonging to his company.
Please bring both the original documents as well as the copies to the
appointment. In Canada, the notary makes the copies. In the WA, the
client makes the photocopies and brings them to the appointment.
Mobile service available
For copy notarizations and certifications only, Washington's regulations permit me to drive to your workplace or other public venue in the lower mainland to retrieve the documents and take them back to Washington for notarizing. I will then mail, FedEx, or deliver the notarized copies to the address you specify.
I am not permitted to notarize while I am in Canada. (Just as Canadian notaries may not notarize while in the States.)
Travel fees for this service depend on the distance I must travel and start at $75us for Tsawwassen. Please telephone (604) 484-3681 for a more thorough explanation and fee quote.
There is no tax on WA notary services.

The US Internal Revenue Service requires that you enclose a notarized copy of your identification papers when you mail your W-7 application to them to obtain a US tax ID number. A passport is sufficient.
The IRS does not accept notarizations by Canadian notaries. You may either have your identification papers notarized in Point Roberts, WA, or you can go to the US Embassy in downtown Vancouver. I hear that they are currently booking appointments a few weeks out.
I am available 7 days a week including most holidays.
Please bring both the original identification papers as well as the copies to the appointment. I do not have a laser copier in my notary office.
The owner of the identification papers is not required to appear before me. You may send a family member or other representative to me with your paperwork.

There is a risk of your package being lost so please consider this FedEx/post option carefully.
You may wish to ask about insurance to cover the cost of new passports or replacement of original documents. Also consider using online tracking, registered mail, and other options to help secure your documents.
Please do not send documents it would difficult or impossible to replace.
How this service works -
1. If you choose to work with me, you would contact me via phone or email to obtain my Point Roberts, WA, delivery address.
2. You make a photocopy of your document.
3. Then send the copy/copies and original/s to me. Please enclose a prepaid return label and envelope (folded inside) for the return trip. Please require that a signature be obtained for delivery - both directions.
4. I will have my credit card payment processor - 2CheckOut.com - send you an invoice. 2CO is like PayPal but is far more secure for both of us.
5. Once your payment is processed (1-2 business days), I will return your notarized copies and original documents. You are welcome to track your package online.
Fees
When the number of pages is three or less, the fee is $35usd. In the event of multiple items being notarized (such pas copying both your green birth certificate card and your employee ID badge) a maximum of two documents per sheet is welcome without higher fees.
Please contact me if your document package is larger. I have notarized copies of manuscripts, theses, and other 100+ page documents. These jobs need to be priced individually.
Important special notes -
I live in Washington state around 1km south of the Canada/US border for British Columbia, Canada. 90% of my clients live there. I am happily very experienced in working with nice people from around the globe who are now living in Canada.
My BC phone number rings in both my Pt Roberts home office and notary office. If you do not have free long distance for North America, please tell me your phone number and I will hang up and telephone you. I never make solicitation calls or tell anyone your phone number unless you specifically instruct me to do so (such as telling me to speak with your tax accountant).
I do not notarize copies of college diplomas and transcripts.
Documents in foreign languages are not a problem.
We do not have Purolator in WA. And if you send your package via DHL, the package will be delivered by UPS.
Ask for assistance from your local vendor about how to pay for and track the return package if using these companies.
I use my ink notary seal on the Notarial Certificate page. I use my embossed notary seal on every page and do not blacken it.
Please let me know if your document should not have embossed seals.
If your notarized document will need to be accepted outside North America, I can obtain an Apostille (Hague Convention) or Certificate of Authentication for you at lower prices than in Canada and in only a few weeks turn around time.

If you and a partner or colleague are both applying for US tax ID numbers (ITIN or W-7) from the Internal Revenue Service, your identification copies must be on separate pieces of paper. This an an IRS requirement.
